Calvin Klein vs Hugo Boss

People, especially women, have always devoted efforts to looking beautiful. From Medieval period to present, women go to great lengths to improve their complexion, highlight certain features, minimize the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles, etc. all in the attempt to look flawless in the eye of a beholder. Regardless of how much we try to ignore other people’s opinion and criticism on our appearances, at the end we all come to the same conclusion – beauty matters. And aside from the fact that nowadays there is endless number of ‘miracle’ beauty products (from cosmetics and makeup to perfumes), thanks to numerous celebrity enforcements, beauty industry is a multi-billion dollar industry.

But which products are as good as advertized? Sadly, but true, answer to this question will always remain a mystery as there are numerous brands that claim nothing less than perfection. As a result, we are all witnesses to an ongoing battle between renowned brands. Take perfume industry for an example. Chanel was the first fashion house to launch own perfume in 1921. The famous ‘Chanel No.5′ quickly gained clients’ acclaim and was one of the most demanded perfumes at the time. This fragrance continues to impress even today, but due to high competition, its popularity ranking has slightly diminished. Nowadays, almost all fashion brands have their own fragrance lines and it’s a tough battle. Let’s take Calvin Klein fragrance for men and women and Hugo Boss perfume for example.

Both fashion houses are renowned brands known for innovative designs, glamorous styles, high quality and provocative ads. And this is true for their perfumes as well. Even though, Hugo Boss has been part of fashion longer than Calvin Klein, both brands released their first fragrances in the early 80s. First Calvin Klein perfume, Calvin was launched in 1981. This cologne for men did not bring Klein the anticipated success. His next fragrance though matched the sales and popularity with highly acclaimed designer brands. Obsession was launched in 1985 and its oriental and spicy notes were an instant hit among women. This irresistible mixture of vanilla, bergamot, sandalwood, orange blossom, jasmine, musk, etc. continues to be one of most sought-after Calvin Klein perfume.

Boss Number OneHugo Boss released first fragrance, Boss Number One, in 1985. and just like first Calvin Klein perfume, this Hugo Boss perfume did not get as popular as many expected. However, 10 years later, Boss brand launched another cologne and perfume, Hugo. The fragrance became the must-have item overnight and continues to be one of the best fragrances of all times. Bold mixture of lavender, green apple, carnaton, geranium, patchouli, etc. is the best Hugo Boss perfume. But as true with any beauty product, the same is true for fragrances under these two brands – both designers create quality and sensual scents and it depends on customer’s preferences as to which one can be named the better one. What smells good on one person does not mean it smells good on everybody. Thus, choice of a fragrance is a personal matter.
